LASER & LIGHT THERAPY

There are over 75 terms used to describe the use of low dose light devices for therapeutics, the most popular being low. Besides lasers, both LEDs and broad-band light have been used for therapy.

Benefits

Because Photobiomodulation (PBM) Therapy works on the individual cells in your body, we see a broad array of benefits, thereby helping people with a wide variety of diagnoses. PBM Therapy is effective and non-invasive, so it’s an excellent option for people looking for a natural solution for injury repair and pain management.

To develop and implement non-invasive, practical, drug-free and cost-effective phototherapeutic medical devices, for use by trained medical professionals that can help to enhance patients’ quality of life and improve standards of care.

PHOTOBIOMODULATION THERAPY

The North American Association of Laser / Light Therapy encourages the use of Photobiomodulation Therapy, previously known as low level light/laser therapy (LLLT) cold laser and photostimulation. Photobiomodulation Therapy is the use of red and infrared light energy produced by non-thermal lasers or medical grade LEDs to improve wound and soft tissue healing, reduce inflammation and give relief for both acute and chronic pain. The effects of PBM Therapy are photochemical (like photosynthesis in plants). When the correct dose and treatment times are used, red and near infrared light increases ATP (cell energy) and increases local blood flow. This improves cell metabolism and reduce inflammation.

The Healing nature of light

First developed over 50 years ago. According to Dr. Michael Hamblin, a world authority on PBM Therapy is the use of light to stimulate, heal, regenerate, and protect cells in the body that have either been injured, are degenerating, or at the risk of dying. It has been consistently found that non-coherent light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with comparable parameters to coherent low power lasers performed equally well.

PBM has been used successfully to treat athletic injuries, acute & chronic conditions, repetitive strain disorders, tissue healing and much more. By providing the extra energy required for healing, the tissue is able to heal itself naturally. This innovative therapeutic alternative may also eliminate the need for painful, debilitating surgeries and drug therapies so often accompanied by harmful side effects.

Photobiomodulation provide the cells light to produce photo-chemical reactions, stimulating injured or stressed cells to produce more energy. This energy increase allows the cells to work more effectively so that the cells can function optimally.

FAQs

Photobiomodulation (“PBM”) Therapy is also known as Low Level Light/Laser Therapy, Cold Laser Therapy, or Photostimulation. The North American Association of Laser Therapy’s (“NAALT”) definition of PBM Therapy, “is the use of light therapy that utilizes non-ionizing forms of light sources, including Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (“LASERS”), Light Emitting Diodes (“LEDs”), and broad-band light, in the visible and infrared spectrum.”

It is a non-thermal process involving the absorption of light energy to elicit photophysical and photochemical events within the body.

The effectiveness of PBM Therapy has been verified in thousands of clinical trials and lab studies, and published in many leading peer-reviewed medical journals. Based on the literature, PBM Therapy is a proven, safe, drug-free solution that can improve patient outcomes in a variety of rehabilitation applications. There is strong evidence that PBM Therapy provides effective pain relief, both in therapeutic rehab and dental applications, dramatically reducing if not eliminating the need for prescription drugs or opioids. During teeth extractions and other dental procedures, for example, PBM Therapy has proven to be a highly effective pain manager. It has also been seen to help dramatically reduce related pain in dry socket, dental infection, soft tissue lesions, anesthetics, nausea and gagging, orthodontics, dental emergencies, and root sensitivity.

PBM Therapy has also shown to be effective for chiropractic, physiotherapy and athletic therapy uses, such as treatment for tendonitis, arthritis, inflammation, muscle fatigue, injuries and chronic pain.
